Room by Room: Whitney's Creative Take on Organic Modern Living

For Whitney and her growing family, their 1989 tract home in the Denver suburbs is more than just a house — it’s a lesson in creativity, balance, and making every inch of space work beautifully. While the square footage may be modest (just 1,400 sq. ft.), Whitney has infused it with her unique blend of modern natural tones, boho textures, and cozy cottage inspiration.

A Cozy Welcome: The Entryway & Living Room

Walking through the front door immediately sets the tone for Whitney’s home. With soaring ceilings and intentional selections, the front living space feels equally calming and multifunctional.

"We really loved the high ceilings and, even though it's actually pretty small house… we loved how it felt a little bit more open, and it felt like our family could use the space really well." - Whitney

The space was originally intended to be a formal dining room, but Whitney reimagined it as an open-concept living room — proving that function always wins when designing for real life. Anchoring the room is the Luscious 4 Pc. Sectional, assembled with two corner pieces, an armless chair, and ottoman. It’s a large, plush setup that makes this repurposed area ideal for gathering, lounging, and decompressing.

To tie the space together, the Jakarta Coffee Table offers a natural wood finish and airy profile — perfect for balancing storage and style without crowding the walkthrough. A weathered entryway cabinet adds both artistic charm and hidden storage, and a spare dining chair tucks in a corner effortlessly for extra seating when needed.

The effect? A place that feels open, connected, and still brimming with warmth.

The Kitchen & Dining Space

Like many homes from the late 80s, the kitchen layout presented both charm and challenge.

But that hasn’t stopped her from making it functional and beautiful! Since counter space is limited, the Briar Fork 5 Pc. Counter Height Set serves double-duty as a prep and dining surface. It’s the family’s everyday workhorse — tall enough to act as an island, inviting enough to host cozy meals.

To keep the kitchen running smoothly, the Mountain Home Credenza plays a key role in everyday organization. Positioned conveniently near the dining space, it provides a designated home for essentials like kids’ sippy cups and dishes — all while complementing Whitney’s clean, contemporary aesthetic.

Nearby in the playroom, the oversized Caldera Ottoman adds another layer of functionality, offering soft, safe seating that helps create a family-friendly zone without sacrificing style.

Kids’ Bedroom (Oldest Child)

Transitioning from home office to full-fledged “big kid” space, Whitney’s oldest child — her son — now has a room that blends playfulness with practicality. At its heart is the Remi Canopy Bed — a whimsical piece that sparks imagination while offering the comfort and support.

The coordinating dresser and nightstand add timeless function, and a comfy poof in the corner ensures bedtime stories and snuggles remain a nightly ritual.

And perhaps most importantly for long nights and story times, the Mya Swivel Glider Recliner is tucked into the room — a lifesaver for both baby years and bedtime routines.

Primary Bedroom Sanctuary

When the rest of the home is buzzing with toddler energy, Whitney’s primary bedroom becomes a retreat. High ceilings and soft light pour into the space, making it one of her favorite rooms.

The Greyson Panel Bed sets the tone with its timeless lines and grounding presence, while a charming crib sits nearby for the baby — because parenting often requires a peaceful mindset. The Cooper Swivel Glider Recliner rounds out the room, offering a perfect place to curl up with a book, feed the baby, or simply enjoy a quiet moment.

Whitney’s Style: Organic Modern Meets Boho

Whitney describes her aesthetic as a blend:

"I think the style that I resonate with most could be called like a modern natural — a little bit of cottage, a little bit of boho."

Rather than locking herself into a strict label, she allows freedom to layer what she loves. If pieces resonate, she tries to take them home and see how nicely they work together.

And work they do. With smart Furniture Row selections, Whitney’s 1989 suburban home proves that character, coziness, and functionality don’t require endless square footage — just thoughtful design and a willingness to make space work for your family.
